National Star is recruiting extra special people to join its committed team of care and support workers helping young people with complex disabilities to live life as independently as possible.
The long-term residents that we support have a wide range of learning and physical disabilities. Like other young people of the same age many of them love fashion, listening to music, shopping, watching sport and socialising with their friends.
As one of our care and support workers you will be a key member of our team, providing personalised care to enable residents to enjoy their hobbies and interests and realise their aspirations.
We are looking for some people with a care background but would also like to encourage those with no experience to come forward as we offer a comprehensive induction and training programme and will help you to achieve your qualifications in health and social care. People with previous experience in retail, administration and hospitality have made a successful transition to become care and support workers at National Star.
What matters most is that you support our values and can demonstrate the potential to develop in this role and have a positive attitude toward the aspirations of young people with disabilities.
Key tasks involve:
Delivering all aspects of personal care including washing, dressing, personal appearance, toileting, mouth, nail, and foot care and feeding.
Provide support in our long-term living accommodation and out in the community.
Plan, organise and support high quality leisure activities. This may involve trips into the community, visits to the cinema, pubs and restaurants or simply helping a resident pursue their favourite hobby or sport.
Liaise with family members, enabling a resident to speak to parents, friends and family and providing updates on activities and progress
Administer medication to residents in line with policy and procedure, after receiving relevant training.
All the residents at our long-term accommodation have big personalities and even biggest ambitions to live life to the full - with your help they can achieve that. We challenge you to find a more rewarding role in care.
We have just agreed a salary increase of five per cent across all our jobs from January 2022 to recognise the commitment and dedication of our staff. This means salary rates will rise to £10.50 - £10.92 (£13.13 - £13.65 per hour at weekends). Hours available range from 16 - 37 hours per week.
All new staff joining National Star will be eligible to receive a welcome bonus of £250 (pro rata) upon successful completion of their probation.
Opportunity to access a wide range of training, including the Level 2 qualification in Adult Care for those new to care and support work
Opportunity to purchase a TOTUM (NUS Extra) card which provides discounts at many retailers including the Co-op, ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Boots, Waterstones and more
Free parking on site
Contributory pension scheme
Cashback scheme to help pay for dental, optical, physiotherapy and other healthcare treatments
Cycle to Work scheme
Life insurance cover
If you are looking for a rewarding part-time or full-time role, where you will genuinely make a difference to a group of young people with big ambitions to make the most of their lives, join our team!
How to apply
At National Star, we know the value of a diverse workforce, and welcome applications from all areas of the community.
