Join National Star as a nurse and use your skills and knowledge to keep residents and students with disabilities safe and well so they can live their lives to the full.
You’ll be there to support young adults with disabilities to manage their long-term health conditions so they can do the things they want in life. Working alongside support staff you’ll help them manage their medication, promoting independence while using your nursing skills to make sure they can lead the lives they choose. It goes without saying that you will be on hand to deliver day-to-day and emergency nursing care as required.
Whether you are caring for students or long-term residents you will have the pleasure of getting to know an amazing group of young adults with big personalities and even bigger ambitions to live their lives as independently as possible. You’ll be there for the important occasions and the small moments. The first attempt to administer their own medication or the triumphant achievement of speaking for the first time after an acquired brain injury.
Through the smiles and tears, the pain and celebrations, you’ll be right there with them, supporting their care to enhance the events they love and the social calendar they choose. It’s their life. You’ll make sure they’re healthily living it.
Many of the students and residents at National Star are medically complex and have respiratory issues, epilepsy, neurological and life-limiting conditions.
If you have never worked with people with disabilities before that’s not a dealbreaker. Many of our current nursing team have transferred from an acute NHS setting, with little or no experience of working with young disabled adults. We can teach you everything you need to know about working with people with disabilities. If you can make acute clinical decisions and have the compassion to be able to provide quality care for someone with a life-limiting condition, you will fit in well with our team.
National Star is a growing charity with more than 1,100 staff based in England and Wales. Established more than 50 years ago, we’ve supported hundreds of young people with disabilities to achieve their potential.

Please note that all applicants will be expected to undertake a DBS Disclosure, and undergo the necessary employer checks. The level of disclosure to be applied for will be dependent on your job role and will be discussed with you during the recruitment process but is usually an enhanced level. Where appropriate, the adult and child barred lists will be checked and we will not employ anyone who appears on either of those registers.
We prefer people to submit an online application as this helps support the charity in saving money.
