The role

Are you an experienced nurse looking to pass on your skills and expertise to others? Then National Star has a new and exciting opportunity for you! We are looking for a qualified nurse to support our clinical training for care staff and nurses across our charity.

In this new role you will establish effective working relationships with our staff to understand their training needs so that they are able to deliver the highest quality of care to the young people with complex disabilities that we support. We imagine that you’ll want to undertake a regular training needs analysis to identify your priorities going forward.

As many of the students and long-term residents have respiratory conditions we know that delivering respiratory training for members of the nursing team will be a critical task. In addition, you will support the development of a competency framework for non-qualified staff and the induction of new staff.

Although the role is being advertised as a full-time position (37 hours a week) we are an organisation that is looking to ensure our staff have a good work/life balance and so job share and part-time would be considered for the right candidates.

As well as respiratory, key areas of focus will include:

IV therapies

Gastrostomy Care

Palliative Care

Managing acutely unwell or deteriorating young people with disabilities

Nutritional Support

We do not expect you to be an expert in all these specialisms initially and will invest in your training and development to ensure that you are confident in supporting others in their roles.

About us

National Star is a growing charity with more than 1,100 staff based in England and Wales. Established more than 50 years ago, we’ve supported hundreds of young people with disabilities to achieve their potential.

In addition as recognition of the commitment and dedication of our team, salary levels will rise by five per cent for all staff on 1 January 2022. This means in the New Year the salary for this role will increase to up to £42,500.
