PART TIME Travel Trainer for Lift Training in Derbyshire.

£10,347  per annum pro rata, (FTE £22,791).

Temporary contract, 20 hours per week, Term time (39 weeks). Contract is due for renewal September 23. We do not foresee an issue regarding the renewal of this contract by the local authority and would offer a permanent post once the contract renewal is known.

Being able to travel independently opens up new doors to young people with disabilities. How rewarding would it feel to think you’d played a part in building the travel confidence of a young person so they can travel to school, college or work on their own?

Join National Star, a leading disability charity, as our new term-time only travel trainer in Derbyshire. Working in partnership with Derbyshire County Council and other service providers you will provide independent travel training to a range of young people with disabilities, so they can use public transport for journeys to school or college. You will join a strong programme and after induction training will be capable of delivering structured 1:1 support.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, creative and, most importantly, excited to be working with young people with a range of disabilities.

It goes without saying that you'll be highly organised, a natural networker with first-class communication skills. Mentoring or training experience is preferred but not essential for this role.

National Star’s travel training project in Derbyshire is part of a group of similar projects operated by the charity in areas such as Cambridgeshire and East Sussex. Our current travel trainers in these areas come from a variety of backgrounds such as education, learner support, care, the police service and youth work.

Due to the nature of the position a flexible approach will be required in terms of start and finish times as you will be supporting students to travel to and from their places of study. Whilst being based from home, you will also need to travel across Derbyshire to deliver the service. You will be expected to hold a full driving licence and be prepared to use your own vehicle for business use (appropriate mileage expenses will be paid).

For more information about our programme please contact Melanie Winter, Programme Leader.

Please note that interviews will be held throughout the duration of the advertisement and we may close this vacancy if we have appointed suitable applicants. Please apply early!

How to apply

At National Star, we know the value of a diverse workforce, and welcome applications from all areas of the community. This includes those with disabilities, and we are a proud Disability Confident employer and are committed to providing equal opportunities. In 2018 National Star received an 'Outstanding' from Ofsted.

Please note that all applicants will be expected to undertake a DBS Disclosure, and undergo the necessary employer checks. The level of disclosure to be applied for will be dependent on your job role and will be discussed with you during the recruitment process but is usually an enhanced level. Where appropriate, the adult and child barred lists will be checked and we will not employ anyone who appears on either of those registers.

We prefer people to submit an online application as this helps support the charity in saving money.  Alternatively please send your cv to or call our recruitment department 01242 527631 for further information or an application form. If you have a disability and need to apply using an alternative format, or if you have any technical problems with our recruitment system please let us know.

All future correspondence with you will be via email (application acknowledgement, invitation to interview etc). Please check your email regularly.
