About the Role
At National Star we are driven by our vision for a world in which people with disabilities are able to realise their potential as equal and active citizens. We are one of the largest employers in Gloucestershire, with over 900 employees at the moment.
Our success is largely due to the dedication and hard work of our Facilitators (known elsewhere as Care Workers or Support Workers, but we like the title to reflect the fact that these staff facilitate the independence of our learners). As we offer more services and welcome increasingly complex learners to our organisation, we need to continually look for the right people to join our growing team.
We have continued need for applicants who have experience working with people with learning and/or physical disabilities, and a Level 2 qualification in care or learning support. We also encourage applications from people with no previous experience. We provide award winning training to everyone we hire- what's important is that you support our values and can demonstrate the potential to develop in this role. You will have a positive attitude towards the aspirations of young people with disabilities, as well as be able to show that you are professional, hardworking and enthusiastic about the care sector.
You will support students and residents with personal care, therapy, and social and educational activities. It's important to note that personal care will include washing, dressing, toileting and continence support, foot care, feeding and undertaking some medical procedures. Again, training will be provided to all successful candidates and we take all possible measures to make sure you feel comfortable and confident in what you're asked to do.
Successful candidates will be motivated and able to use their initiative. As a CQC Outstanding and Ofsted Outstanding organisation, we have very high standards and so we will expect you to follow our protocol and deliver care and support in line with your training.
When you start, you will attend a 2-3 week induction course at our main site in Ullenwood. While you may not be based here for your role, this will be a great chance to see the campus and understand everything we offer. Our in-house training team has been awarded the Princess Royal Training Award and will support you as you become familiar with your role. This is mandatory for everyone who joins us, so that we are able to maintain our standards of care and support.
We have sites in Cheltenham, Gloucester, and Ullenwood (near the Air Balloon Roundabout). If you state a preference in your application, we will try to take that into account, but please be aware that the interview panel will make a decision as to which team will be the most appropriate for you and this may be in any of our locations.
We are able to offer Full Time and Part Time positions, but please note that we are currently only offering All Year contracts (rather than Term Time Only). Facilitators work shift patterns, which start as early as 7am and finish no later than 10 or 11pm. Your shifts will be a mixture of earlies and lates, and while we will take into account any days you are unavailable, there is a requirement to work a minimum of every other weekend.
Please note that we are not accepting agency applications. If you would like to be considered for this role, please apply below.
Find out what our Facilitators think about working at National Star.
At National Star, we know the value of a diverse workforce, and welcome applications from all areas of the community. This includes those with disabilities, and we are a proud Disability Confident employer and are committed to providing equal opportunities. In 2018 National Star received an 'Outstanding' from Ofsted.
Please note that all applicants will be expected to undertake a DBS Disclosure, and undergo the necessary employer checks. The level of disclosure to be applied for will be dependent on your job role and will be discussed with you during the recruitment process but is usually an enhanced level. Where appropriate, the adult and child barred lists will be checked and we will not employ anyone who appears on either of those registers.
We prefer people to submit an online application as this helps support the charity in saving money. If you have a disability and need to apply using an alternative format, or if you have any technical problems with our recruitment system, please call the HR Team on 01242 527631 or email email@example.com.
All future correspondence with you will be via email (application acknowledgement, invitation to interview etc). Please check your email regularly.
