Care and Support Worker – Day Team - Term-Time
At National Star, we realise the aspirations of young adults living with complex physical and learning disabilities. The young people we support are currently looking for care and support workers to join our college team working term time only.
Whether you’re ready for a change in your career or want to take the next step in a position you’re already passionate about, everything you do will help create a world without limits – for the students and residents you empower and your own career development. Together we make sure they get the personalised care they need, whether they’re studying, socialising or enjoying their passions and hobbies.
You’ll:
Help with full personal care, including toiletting and mealtimes
Provide classroom and learning support alongside a specialist tutor
Plan, organise and accompany students and residents on days out
Record and share with families the progress made towards personal goals and aspirations
Keep in touch with family and friends so students and residents can spend time together/chat
Administer medication to students and residents after receiving relevant training.
The core hours for this role are 9am – 5pm, term-time only, Monday to Friday with some flexibility to work an earlier shift (starting at 8am) once a week to cover team meetings and a later shift (to 8 pm). If you are working full time during the week we would ask you to work one day every other weekend – part time staff will work both Saturday and Sunday every other weekend. We can offer both part time and full time contracts (24 hours up to 44 hours per week).
Would you describe yourself as hard-working and enthusiastic? If you’re positive and passionate about empowering young people with disabilities, then you’re exactly who we’re looking for. If you’ve previously worked in a care setting, then your experience supporting people with learning and/or physical disabilities would be welcomed, alongside a Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care.
But even if you don’t have a care background, the right attitude and drive to support our students will see you fit in with the team. We’ll make sure our comprehensive induction and training programmes help you achieve your Level 2 Adult Care qualification.
There are no limits to your career possibilities. Many of our former care and support workers have moved into management roles with us or even retrained as nurses and therapists after completing our degree apprenticeship programme.
Whether it’s the big moments some of us take for granted or the small triumphs that others wouldn’t expect, together, we focus on what’s possible for every person we support and recognise that the connections we make today are the memories of tomorrow. It’s their life. You make sure they’re busy living it.
Important Information
At National Star, we know the value of a diverse workforce, and welcome applications from all areas of the community. This includes those with disabilities, and we are a proud Disability Confident employer and are committed to providing equal opportunities. In 2018 National Star received an 'Outstanding' from Ofsted.
